The International Broadcast Convention in Amsterdam has wrapped up, leaving us with a plethora of exciting new tech to drool over. From new cameras to 8K televisions, portable RAID hard drives, and more, there’s no shortage of innovation to get excited about. Here are just a few of the biggest headlines to come out of IBC 2015:
Sony stole the show with their Missing Link presentation, which included updates on the FS7 and a7S II cameras. But the real star of the show was the Sony FS5, a smaller camera that fits in the palm of your hand and doesn’t include the handle extension of the FS7. DJI also made waves with their Zenmuse X5, a Micro Four Thirds camera upgrade built specifically for the Inspire 1 aerial platform. With the ability to record 4K video at 30 fps and capture 16MP still images, this camera is a game-changer for drone enthusiasts. Learn more about the Zenmuse X5 over at AbelCine.
Teradek announced several exciting new products, including the Vidiu Pro, which allows users to stream live from anywhere. The Bolt Sidekick is another standout product, offering a lightweight, compact wireless video receiver for directors or AC monitors. Check out more of Teradek’s announcements here.
NHK showcased their Super Hi-Vision (SHV) television that broadcasts 8K footage, with plans to begin broadcasting 8K content via satellite in 2020. And House of Cards creator Michael Dobbs spoke about the future of web broadcasting, noting that many industry experts believe “the future isn’t feature films, but the Golden Age of television.”
Last but not least, Sony announced a series of Professional RAID portable hard disk arrays, with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 2 capabilities. The RAID uses the Sony Memory Media Utility to show disc status, capacity, free space, and formatting options.
