Are you an aspiring filmmaker looking for your big break? Look no further than Robert Rodriguez’s latest competition. In honor of the 25th anniversary of his debut film, El Mariachi, Rodriguez is giving five lucky filmmakers the chance to make a feature film on the same budget he had. And the best part? He’s funding it himself!
Partnering with his El Rey Network, the competition will be filmed for a six-episode series called Rebel Without a Crew, based on Rodriguez’s popular book that inspired a generation of filmmakers, including Jon Favreau. The selected filmmakers will have just 14 days to shoot and edit a new feature film with a budget of $7,000 USD.
To apply, you must be a U.S. resident over the age of 18 who has not directed a full-length feature and has access to a script that you own all the rights to. If selected, you must be available to shoot for six weeks in October/November 2017 in Austin, Texas.
But that’s not all. Rodriguez himself will be participating in the competition, and a docu-series will be streamed on Go90, exploring his production process and philosophy.
Think you have what it takes to be a rebel without a crew? Apply now at firstfeaturefilm.castingcrane.com. Just be sure to answer the extensive survey thoroughly and honestly. Don’t worry about being too long-winded – getting to know you as a person and a filmmaker is vital to the selection process. Good luck!
